English Garden
This sunny south-east facing garden in Ashtead is sadly neglected. Narrow beds surround the lawn and the soil is compacted and under-nourished. Mr. and Mrs. B have recently retired and want privacy and shade in a traditional English garden. They enjoy pottering but don’t want the garden to become a burden.
Gravel Garden
Miss J has a demanding job which leaves little time to indulge in her garden. The south-facing plot on a new development in Banstead has a small paved area and a shed base but is basically a bare plot. The brief is to create a gravel garden with a second seating area, protection from being overlooked, plus screening for the shed.
A Garden for Entertaining
With children going off to university, Mr. and Mrs. M want a garden for themselves where they can entertain in style. The garden in Banstead rises behind a flint wall and a narrow patio which becomes very hot and claustrophobic in the summer. They want to build a spacious patio on several levels and create a comfortable area that invites you to explore the rest of the garden.
A Plant Lover’s Garden
Mr. and Mrs. K are enthusiastic gardeners. Their garden in Epsom was professionally designed years ago but needs a makeover. The brief is to redesign the existing patio and side entrance, create secondary seating areas including a summer-house and restyle the planting.
A Courtyard Garden
Mr. and Mrs. B have just moved into a brand new house in Epsom with a small east facing square garden. The brief is to design a courtyard with water feature and fish pond. Architectural plants from the couple’s previous home have been incorporated into a planting scheme that will provide privacy in an oasis of greenery.
Victorian Cottage Charm
With a limited budget and a long narrow neglected garden, Miss P wants to keep the period-feel in a low maintenance scheme. Existing paving and rope edgings are lifted and re-laid in a geometric design. Roses grow over a timber arch with climbers scrambling over fences. Flowering shrubs and cottage garden plants fill the borders with ornamental trees for shade and privacy.
