Introductory visit
This is an opportunity for us to have a short informal meeting when you can look at my portfolio of recent work and we can discuss the possibilities of working together to improve your garden. This visit is free except for my travel expenses, charged at 40p per mile. Should you wish to proceed, then the following sets out the design process.

Consultation
This meeting, which lasts about two hours, gives me a chance to appraise your garden, and gain a thorough understanding from you of what you want to achieve from it. I’ll provide you with ideas and practical advice on how these ideas can be turned into reality and show you how to take care of plants and generally maintain your garden. Following our meeting I’ll write to you, setting out your brief, my fee for drawing up the plans and my payment terms. The cost of this is £75 payable at the end of the consultation.

Survey
The first task is to survey your garden. In most instances I undertake this myself at no additional cost to you. However if the garden is large and complex I'll advise you and recommend a professional land surveyor to carry out the work on your behalf. At this stage we would decide on trees, shrubs and existing features that are to remain.

Outline Plan
Working to your brief and the survey, I’ll draw up a set of plans incorporating the features we discussed, and including a planting scheme and plant schedule. I’ll also provide samples of suggested hard landscaping materials and reference images of plants

Project Monitoring
Arranging the building work is often the most daunting stage for a client, but with experience I know that I can minimise the stress by doing it for you. I'll help you appoint a contractor and monitor his/her progress, making regular site visits and ensuring good communication so that the build is completed satisfactorily within the agreed timescales. My fee is based on the cost of the work and payment is in line with the contractor's terms of payment.

Planting Schemes
Plants are key to any finished design and taking into consideration the style of your garden and its environment, the soil type and aspect, and your likes and dislikes, I'll draw up a detailed planting scheme together with a Plant Schedule listing all the plants in their recommended pot sizes. The variety and number of each plant is clearly positioned on the planting scheme so that it is easy to follow when planting out.

Maintenance Plans
A garden is a living thing and even a low maintenance garden needs some care. To help you get to know your plants I can provide a Maintenance Plan. This sets out straight-forward advice on how and when to care for your plants particularly in the early days when they are newly planted and still finding their feet. If on the other hand you prefer to leave the gardening to a gardener, I can help you find someone suitable.

On-going Help and Advice
I'm always on hand to help a client make the best of their garden, whether it is to develop it further, or simply to answer queries on plant care and general upkeep.
